Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: The traumatic spinal cord injury is of great clinical importance, as it can present to the victims possible physical disabilities and probable emotional and social instabilities and depending on the injury can be fatal or limiting. OBJECTIVES: This retrospective study aims to trace the socio demographic and clinical profile of victims of spinal cord injury (LTRM) treated at the Hospital de Clínicas de Uberlândia (HCU) and its outcomes.METHODOLOGY: Research approved by the Ethics and Research Committee (CEP) of the Federal University of Uberlândia, carried out using data records for the characterization of the victim of LTREM and trauma mechanisms, knowing their primary outcomes, studying the pathophysiology, functional capacity of the spinal cord injured and outlining the main criteria and the main reasons / causes of traumatic spinal cord injury. RESULTS: The average age predominance was 30 years. The average length of stay was 47.23 days. In the gender variable, males predominated with 41 (93.18%), and females 3 (6.82%). Regarding the main reasons and causes of LTRM's, firearm injuries are in evidence with a prevalence of 33%, followed by motorcycle accidents 27%, and automobile accidents 25%., The highest injury rate was in the thoracic region. with an incidence of 25 times (56.82%), followed by cervical injuries that appeared 14 times (38.64%), and lumbar injuries appearing 9 times (20.45%). In the end, the most common complications presented were spinal shock with 36.36%, in sequence 18.18% had no complications, 13.64% spinal shock and pneumonia, 13.64% neurogenic bladder. As for the outcomes, the detailed description was impaired due to the non-use of the spinal cord injury classification scale known as ASIA, in the investigated service. CONCLUSION: The victims of LTRM's in most cases are affected by urban violence, where the high cost of these people harms not only the health system, but an age group that would be in full social productivity. The use of tools such as the ASIA scale could draw a clearer profile of the morbidity of these individuals affected by LTRM's, that is how much this victim had sequelae. Further studies should be developed in this area. |
