The private security sector operates with the purpose of preserving the spaces of private properties (residences and companies), employing mainly human resources, vigilantes, receptionists, porters and personal security. Professionals in this sector are usually subjected to long work shifts, not infrequently occurring physical violence, family and social absences, thus potentiating the onset of psychopathologies. In this context, the objective of this research is to investigate the incidence of mental illness among workers who work in the private security follow-up of a company whose head office is located in the city of Uberlândia (Minas Gerais). In order to do so, bibliographical research pertinent to the subject was searched for a theoretical and methodological support, survey and analysis of the health data present in the reports of the Specialized Service Sector in Safety Engineering and Occupational Medicine (SESMT) of the company. In these reports, the records of the ASO (Occupational Health Certificates) and their respective classifications in the ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases Version 10) category F (mental and behavioral disorders) were identified, whose analysis was carried out from January 2012 to December According to the data collection, 58 types of mental health-related disorders were identified, totaling a total of 389 ASO, according to the period described. The most prevalent disorders were F41.1 (panic disorder), F32.0 (mild depressive episode), F41.1 (generalized anxiety), F32.2 (severe depressive episode), among others. By means of such evidences, it was concluded that this work follow-up is a great enhancer of pathologies related to mental illness and physical aggravating conditions. This study also points to the urgent need on the part of the organization and also by health professionals (public and private), the need for greater investments and personal training for the health treatment of this working class.
