This dissertation studies the feminine identity construction in the short stories “A camisa do marido”, “A mulher do pai” and “A quimera da mãe”, belonging to the collection “A camisa da marido”, by the brazilian author Nélida Piñon, published in first edition in 2014. This study aims at approaching the prevalence in contemporaneity of the traits of submission and male chauvinism under which woman is submitted. For this, this research was divided into three chapters: in the first one, the literary contribution of female authorship is highlighted, above all, the importance of Nélida Piñon’s writings in the literary canon, as well as the critical view on the writer’s literary background. In the second one, our focus is on the short story as a literary genre and the character’s feminine identity formation, respectively. Then, we present a brief analysis of the other short stories presented in the collection. The last chapter presents an analysis of the main selected short stories for this dissertation. This is a theoretical-critical-interpretative study, based on the theory of scholars such as Constância Lima Duarte (1997-1990), Míriam Zafalon (2014), Stuart Hall (2005), Lúcia Osana Zolin (2008-1999), Cecil Jeanine Albert Zinani (2006) among others who have greatly contributed to our researches. we discuss the intimate life of the characters in order to verify that the common thread that connects the narratives is the family ties formed by the submission and expression or repression of sexuality, as well as by the problems arising from the inequality between genders, among them, violence and oppression. Things considered we hope to contribute to Piñon’s critical reviews by examining not only the author attention to female identity in her narratives but also evidencing her literary skills.
