"Matar o criminoso,salvar o homem": o lugar da educação no método APAC.

Brazilian society insistently discusses the issue of resocialization of former prisoners: in a global effort to recover men and women penalized by Brazilian justice. However, the public debate does not develop into effective projects, as the State and society in the country have chosen to imprison them. Brazil has the third largest prison population in the world, intensifying the precarious life of inmates without redeeming crime rates. This monograph results from the effort to understand this social problem based on an analysis of the method developed by the Association for the Protection and Assistance of the Convict - APAC. The method of the Association for the Protection and Assistance of the Convict emerged as a new idea so that individuals convicted of committing various crimes could be re-educated. The method uses religious proselytism as the central structure of the intervention on the imprisoned subjects and which aims to produce a new man through conversion. The objective, then, is to analyze the relationship between the discourse that establishes the method and the practices of 'cure' carried out within the prison, in order to identify the effects on the resocialization of the convicts. To develop the monograph, visits were made to the institution located in the city of Patrocínio, Minas Gerais, as a research activity; Documents produced by the unit were used and can be found on the APAC website and on the FBAC website - Brazilian Fraternity for Protection and Assistance to the Convict. In addition, works that helped in the construction of the process of analysis and reflection on the subject were studied and referenced. The research explains the consequences of re-education through religion and the various problems that arise through the discourse of “Kill the criminal, save the man”, thus harming the resocialization of detainees in the city of Patrocínio-MG. The exploitation of the work and the lack of structure make the method even less viable. In short, the Association for the Assistance and Protection of Convicts clearly reinforces the lack of an inclusive and plural educational base, in addition to preventing the incarcerated from having their right not to follow a religious path, making it impossible for them to truly in society, since, in addition to the deep-rooted prejudice against former detainees, there is a lack of preparation with regard to professional training and studies within the unit.
