Avaliação qualiquantitativa da arborização urbana no campus Umuarama da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia

It is known that urban afforestation is responsible for many aesthetic and environmental benefits when properly implemented. Therefore, this work aims to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate urban afforestation in two stretches of Ceará and Piauí streets and three stretches of Amazonas and Pará avenues, inserted in the Umuarama campus, of the Federal University of Uberlândia, MG, Brazil. This evaluation was carried out using a form with 13 parameters applied to each tree studied. This form favored the measurement and observation of attributes and the physical-sanitary condition of each tree, relating it to the characteristics and available space of the place in which it is located, in addition to analyzing the management used. In total 221 trees were evaluated and the places studied have a good variety of species, but the proportion between them is inadequate, as Cenostigma pluviosum represents half of the tree population found. 65.6% of the population has medium vigor, showing good health and little damage, 20% is vigorous and 14.4% is debilitated, there are no dead trees. Most species are big in size, representing the main problem found, which is the incompatibility of the size of individuals with the space available on the sidewalk. Of the total number of trees, 27.6% need phytosanitary treatment and, or pruning and 48.3% need to be replaced because they are raising the sidewalk or due to the precarious condition they are, as a result of drastic pruning in order to avoid interference in the electrical network and signaling. Although no major problems regarding the quality of trees were found, better planning of afforestation is advisable, with the appropriate choice of species that are compatible with the location where they will be implanted and applying the correct management, to avoid future problems.
