Resumo: A recurring problem with road infrastructure is the loss of traffic flow, organization and accessibility, caused by the implementation of companies acting as Traffic Generation Hubs (TGH). In this case, its operation increases in vehicle flow and traffic volume, negatively reflecting on the routes that are linked to the enterprise. In Brazil, CONAMA 237/1997 regulates that is the entrepreneur’s responsibility to submit an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and provides that it supports the necessary work to mitigate the negative effects in impacted areas. The minor access to UFU (lobby 5) Ave. Francisco Vicente Ferreira has been recently redeployed. Its creation has generated a considerable increase in local traffic, which has been absorbed by the existing infrastructure. In this lane there are two intersection points of the return type that even small vehicles are having difficulties to complete the movement, therefore forcing the driver to climb on the sidewalk to complete a trajectory. The current work had the objective of improving mobility for drivers and pedestrians who passes by the cited spot of analysis, through the elaboration of a project based on engineering measures. The work methodology consisted first in a study of the intersections using the guidelines of the Project Intersection Manual - DNIT (2005). Analyzes of the main data of the intersections, their classifications and characterizations were carried out, as well as a topographic survey of the area, traffic surveys and capacity studies using the software HCS+. The second stage consisted of the project proposal for the intersections. In this phase, it was chosen the project vehicle type and the criteria to determine the most appropriate types of intersections. It was suggested an insertion of acceleration and deceleration lanes and suggestions for horizontal and vertical road signs. All definitions were included in the final project of this work, which demonstrates that a new proposal can bring benefits in terms of operational, service level and road safety.
