Dynamics of societies have increasingly exerted pressure on native species through loss and fragmentation of habitats, hunting and trafficking of wild animals, introduction of alien and invasive species. Such practices have been raising concerns about maintaining biodiversity. Brazilian Cerrado has undergone great changes over time, especially because of the privilege of economic activities to the detriment of species conservation. Extinction of species causes functional diversion that may compromise the ecological balance of the ecosystem. In this way, for this work the species of Blue-and-gold Macaws (Ara ararauna) was chosen, aiming to develop an awareness of conservation of species. Environmental education has been a pedagogical tool that among other reasons serves to show the importance of preserving a species, such as the Blue-and-gold Macaw, of great beauty and abundance in the region of the Triângulo Mineiro. To meet these prerogatives, this work sought to understand the perceptions that Elementary School students in the city of Ituiutaba - MG have about the conservation of this species. Thus, it was observed that students have very limited knowledge on the subject, but the insertion of more activities aimed at environmental conservation is necessary, because the students were very interested in this subject.
