This research presents the institutional history of the 'Santa Casa de Misericordia de Uberlândia', intended to support and care for free, individuals who needed hospital care. Founded in 1918 by the Brotherhood of Mercy of Uberlândia, the work was managed by the State of Minas Gerais and the City Hall of Uberlândia in times of crisis until the Society of St. Vincente de Paulo in Uberlândia assumed it in 1943 and managed until the closing of its activities in the decade of 1970. In order to treat the Vincentian administration, we deepened the social practice in the Santa Casa de Misericórdia in the city of Uberlândia through the documents and sources. Through analysis we reflect mechanisms of legitimation of the Vincentian movement and work before the local population and contribute to the historiography through a research with emphasis on social action and care for the poor, their relationship with the 'Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Uberlândia' the other works held by the Vincentian movement-Asylum, Dispensary, Orphanage and Village – that made up a social network in the city.
