Uma árvore e sua sombra: elementos para elaboração, reflexão e exposição de um desenho autônomo

The central objective of this work consists in the development of a creation process in drawing that problematizes practical and conceptual questions of the use of shadows in graphic representations on a landscape, setting up a poetic research. In retrospect, we have observed that the visual representation of the shadows in drawing has been a matter of growing interest since the undergraduate’s final work and becomes the main research topic in this Master’s dissertation. Thereby, this work arises from the need and desire for a more specific and detailed study about this phenomenon. Realizing the poiesis according to Passeron (1997), as all the intellectual and technical procedure involved in the execution of an artwork, we understand that this research develops from the reflection on the very creative process of these drawings. We approach, therefore, the methodological paths proposed by Rey (2002) for the research in arts, structured in three dynamic stages: conception, execution and conceptualization of an artwork or an artistic process. We define the conception of this process as the elaboration of the research project, the pushing and data collection as well as photographic records and preliminary sketches; the execution as field research, of a practical nature, containing the open air observation drawings, the subsequent atelier work for the shape composition and the final expositive studies. Simultaneously, we have the conceptualization of the work which consists of theoretical research, with survey and analysis of authorial drawings, artworks by artists with issues related to this research and the literature review, focused on the shadow problem as a real visual element, their different perceptions and representativeness in the visual arts, especially from theorists such as Baxandall (1997), who classifies and presents physical analyzes of the luminous phenomenon, along with Casati (2001), who approaches the subject from different perspectives and helps us to answer the questions raised in the development of the research.
