The Psychology of Human Development highlights the importance of the affective dimension for the consolidation of the most important human abilities. This approach understands that in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) a deficit in the capacity for affective connection precedes the symptoms characteristic of the diagnostic criteria. Among the intervention models that act on this primary deficit, the DIR/Floortime stands out. Although this program has already been consolidated in the international field, it is still emerging in Brazilian scientific production, making it less known and accessible. The few existing productions on the model present criticisms that lack reasoned answers. The objective of this work is to understand the role of affection for clinical intervention in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from the DIR/Floortime model perspective. The methodology involved a narrative bibliographic review for theoretical foundation. It was possible to verify that affection occupies a central role in the DIR/Floortime, being the basis for the explanation regarding the genesis of autism, for the theoretical construction of the intervention program and to support the practice of professionals.
