The backyard poultry is a tradition in the different Brazilian regions, representing importance in the economic sphere of the country. The presence of diseases that result in low production and death are limiting factors for this type of production and is a risk factor for the industry poultry. The objective of this study was to evaluate the seroprevalence of avian encephalomyelitis Virus (AEV), Chicken anaemia virus (CAV), Infectious bursal disease (IBD) and Reovirus (REO) in rural properties in the city of Uberlândia-MG, Brasil and to relate to possible clinical signs present in the properties. The results obtained by the ELISA methodology indicated the presence of these viral agents in the region, which is considered a pole of great relevance in poultry production. The presence of these viruses in the field is important not only to the backyards poultries but also a potential risk factor for the poultry industry, since these properties are only a few kilometers away from farms and hatcheries industry in the region. There was a positive correlation between the seroprevalence of the three immunosuppressive diseases. Clinical signs were suggestive of diseases of the respiratory system but there was no association between seroprevalence of diseases affecting the immune system and respiratory signs. The implementation of measures aimed at the control and prevention of infectious agents in these rural establishments is important to avoid the spread of these and other diseases in farms and industry.
