The present study sought to answer the impact caused by nosocomial infections on the costs of a teaching hospital in the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. To this end, it had the general objective of presenting the behavior of costs, caused by hospital infections in the period from January to December 2020 and 2021. A descriptive, documentary and bibliographic research was carried out with a quantitative approach. Data were collected from the hospital itself and also through DataSUS. These are data referring to the number of hospitalizations; average length of stay in days; mean value per hospitalization; value of hospital services; value of professional services and total value of procedures. The results showed that the treatment of infections influenced the total costs of the hospital, especially when it comes to bacterial or viral infections, which are those commonly acquired during the hospital stay. As it is the year 2021, in which the incidence of Covid-19 cases was quite significant and costly to the institution, analyzes were carried out with the exception of Covid-19 cases, where the impact of other infections on the composition of costs can be seen. It is concluded that the length of stay is the main factor that burdens expenses, because the longer the patient's stay, the greater the total costs, since technical and specialized services, hospital services, medicines, food, among other supplies relevant to the treatment.
