Resumo: The objective of this study is to empirically investigate, through statistical methods, the relationship between inflation variation (General price index IGP-DI) in Brazil and the costs of maize production in polo cities in Brazil from 2007 to 2016 The theoretical basis consulted questions ways of protecting itself from price variations of the commodity and its effects on the production chains that depend on this input. Thus, in the present study, the behavior of costs and inflation variation was verified in order to establish a correlation between these variations. Correlation analyzes were performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software, in order to show if there is some kind of relationship between the aforementioned variables. The results showed that there is a correlation between corn production costs and inflation, according to the analyzed data. It was also verified that in almost all the city-polo analyzed presented correlation in all the variables, except for the agricultural pesticides (pesticides).

A base teórica consultada questiona maneiras de se proteger das variações de preço da commodity e seus efeitos nas cadeias de produção que dependem desse insumo. Sendo assim, no presente estudo busca-se verificar o comportamento entre os custos e a variação da inflação a fim de se estabelecer uma correlação entre essas variações. Foram utilizadas análises de correlação através do software estatístico Statical Package for Social Sciences – SPSS, com o intuito de evidenciar se existe algum tipo de relação entre as variáveis supracitadas. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que, existe correlação entre os custos da produção de milho e a inflação, de acordo com os dados analisados.
