Resumo: Shoulder pain is one of the main complaints that lead individuals to seek physical therapy treatment in the upper limb and rotator cuff tendinopathy is a frequent dysfunction. Although evidence suggests that conservative treatment is effective in reducing pain and improving function, a large proportion of patients continue to experience pain. It is known that the longer it lasts, the greater the central nervous system (SC) sensitization responses can become. However, although there are evidences in the literature that claim that SC is a characteristic of patients with persistent shoulder pain, other studies claim that it is not, and this is still not a consensus. Therefore, the aim of this study was to correlate the presence of shoulder pain associated with loss of function with symptoms of central sensitization. Five individuals were evaluated before the activity suspension period, since the experimental collections were also suspended. The volunteers received physical therapy evaluation, with an emphasis on functional limitations and pain characteristics through an anamnesis script based on the biopsychosocial model and the brief pain inventory. And they answered the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) questionnaires, which is a quality of life questionnaire designed to assess the pain and disability associated with shoulder dysfunctions, the central sensitization inventory and the catastrophic thoughts scale. Spearman's correlation was applied for comparisons between pain and function, pain and symptoms of central sensitization, pain and catastrophization and symptoms of central sensitization and catastrophization. The results showed that there was no correlation between the variables analyzed. However, they are preliminary and the sample analyzed was very small, which certainly contributed to the loss of statistical power of the test and does not allow any assertive conclusions about such an investigation.
