Resumo: The urban cultural hip-hop movement, which originated in the United States as a form of resistance for peripheral youth, has its expression through music, visual arts, dance and fashion. The linguistic universe that this culture creates and perpetuates through its members is extremely valuable and relevant. Thus, this term paper aims to suggest a translation, from English to Brazilian Portuguese, of slangs and other specificities of hip-hop culture, acknowledging the complexity of the linguistic, cultural and social aspects of such textual elements. In order to achieve this aim, excerpts from the Fresh Dressed (Cable News Network, 2015) documentary were selected, analyzed, translated and commented on. Among the examples are eight (8) slangs, two (2) AAVE (African-American Vernacular English) terms, two (2) profanities and two (2) orality marks. As a result, the analyses intend to serve as a study on the translation of elements strongly marked by culture and also intend to endorse the translator’s role on the pursuit of conscious, creative and transformative translation solutions.

Dentre eles, oito (8) são exemplos de gírias, dois (2) de AAVE (African-American Vernacular English), dois (2) de palavrão e dois (2) de marca de oralidade.
