História e quadrinhos: a importância da seção de história do Brasil em figuras para o projeto educacional da revista O Tico-Tico

This research aims to analyze the section of comics about the History of Brazil entitled History of Brazil in Figures (1905-1907), produced by the cartoonist Leonidas Freire and published sequentially in the children's magazine O Tico-Tico, the first weekly periodical dedicated to children , created in 1905 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. In the analysis presented here, we focused on investigating what kind of history of Brazil is being presented and constructed for the country's future men and women, especially with regard to issues of content that is being selected and presented to Brazilian youth. If the press, according to Tânia de Luca's ideas, will be understood as a space for debates on projects for Brazil, for political and social interventions by those who produced newspapers and magazines, the comics, published in these periodicals, would also was an important locus of such discussions. At the beginning of the 20th century, comics circulated especially through the press. Thus, comics, as well as literature, fiction, and other successful products, have become an important space for debate about reality and political and social problems. Thinking about the type of history being constructed for children in the early 20th century tells us a lot about the type of Brazil society was building in children's imagination.
