Resumo: The analysis of stress applied at the cutting mecanism of a sugarcane harvester prototype attachable to a small tractor was evaluated in this work. A model to analyze the knife stress was developed using ANSYS 10.0 finite element type software. Models verification was done by comparing ANSYS results to analytical results for simpler problems. A close agreement was found between the developed ANSYS models and analytical solutions. To simulate the application of the forces applied in the knife, a rotor rotation of 1,830 rpm and a rotor power for cutting of 24.5 kW were considered. The maximum equivalent stress found was 138.6 MPa, lower than the breaking point of the material, and its position was at the knife cut border.

The maximum equivalent stress found was 138.6 MPa, lower than the breaking point of the material, and its position was at the knife cut border.Com o objetivo de se avaliar a distribuição de tensões no mecanismo de corte de um protótipo de colhedora de cana-deaçúcar acoplável a tratores de rabiças, desenvolveu-se um modelo matemático usando-se o programa computacional ANSYS, versão 10.0, que funciona baseado na técnica de elementos finitos e cuja verificação foi feita comparando-se os resultados obtidos pelo programa ANSYS com os obtidos por solução analítica para um problema formulado mais simples. Dos resultados, concluiu-se que o modelo desenvolvido usando o programa ANSYS apresentou resultados próximos aos da solução analítica. Para simular a aplicação das forças atuantes na faca de corte, foram consideradas uma rotação do rotor de corte de 1.830 rpm e uma potência requerida para acioná-lo, de 24,5 kW.
