Resumo: Hourly fuel consumption is one of the most important factors in production management of a farm. The correct selection of working speed and depth is a simple practice which can contribute in many cases to operational economy and increased production. This work sought to evaluate the hourly fuel consumption of a tractor performing plowing and harrowing under three forward speeds 5.0, 6.0, and 8.0 km h-1 and 2 depths of 0.10 and 0.20 m. The experiment was conducted at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences located in the city of Montes Claros, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Two sensors for flow measurement were placed in the supply line of the tractor and one in the return line. The signals from the two sensors were sent to a data acquisition system and discharged to a specific program on a microcomputer. The lowest forward speed and lowest working depth resulted in lower fuel consumption of the tractor. The decrease in hourly fuel consumption demanded by the operation of a plowing and harrowing tractor is possible only with decreasing speed and working depth.

A correta seleção da velocidade e da profundidade de trabalho é uma prática simples que pode contribuir para a economia da operação e aumento de produção agrícola. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o consumo horário de combustível de um trator agrícola nas operações de aração e gradagem em três velocidades de deslocamento, 5,0; 6,0; e 8,0 km h-1 e 2 profundidades de trabalho; 0,10 e 0,20 m. O experimento foi conduzido no Instituto de Ciências Agrárias localizado na cidade de Montes Claros/MG. Foram utilizados dois sensores medidores de fluxo de combustível, um colocado na linha de alimentação do trator e o outro na linha de retorno. Os sinais emitidos pelos dois sensores foram enviados para um sistema de aquisição de dados e descarregados em um programa específico. A menor velocidade de deslocamento e menor profundidade de trabalho proporcionaram ao trator menor consumo de combustível.
