ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIOECONOMIC CONDITIONS AND WISHES TOURIST DESTINATIONS IN BRAZIL

Resumo: This study was carried out to analyze the relationship between socioeconomic conditions and desires of tourist destinations in Brazil, this study was conducted todetermine whether socioeconomic data, reported in the PNUD report (2000), may interfere with the short term decision of the household population to make tourism in Brazil. For this analysis, the most desirable destinations in Brazil we considered, according to data available in the Ministério do Turismo relative to 2006. Thetheoretical framework addressed two main topics: 1) tourism and its importance to local development 2) marketing and image of tourist destinations. After collecting the data, the following constructs were created: education, health, income, housing and demography. The tests used to analyze the relationship between variables were: the Spearman correlation and the Chi-square. The findings showed no significant relationship between the constructs and the desire of Brazilian tourists. From the results, it seems to be possible to infer that the socioeconomic conditions are not important factors to explain the population's desire for sightseeing at the national level in a short time.Keywords: Tourist destinations. Com o objetivo de analisar a relação entre desejos turísticos e condições socioeconômicas de destinos no Brasil, este estudo se propõe a verificar se dados socioeconômicos, indicados no relatório PNUD (2000), podem interferir nas escolhas turísticas de curto prazo no nível doméstico. Para a realização da análise, foram considerados os destinos mais desejados do Brasil, segundo dados do Ministério do Turismo em 2006. O referencial teórico abordou dois eixos temáticos: 1) a atividade turística e seus desdobramentos nas localidades e 2) o marketing e imagem de destinos turísticos. Após a coleta de dados, criaram-se os constructos – educação, saúde, renda, habitação e demografia. Os testes utilizados para a análise da relação entre as variáveis foram: o teste de correlação de postos de Spearman e o teste Qui-Quadrado. Verificou-se que os testes apresentaram nível de dependência não significativa, demonstrando que nenhum dos constructos se correlaciona com o desejo dos turistas brasileiros.
