Resumo: The article analyzed the suppression of native vegetation in a valley occupied by irregular occupations in the city of Maceió through the use of remote sensing with the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) algorithm. The research had as a case study the Grota do Aterro, in order to verify the impacts from the anthropic occupation on the native vegetation. The temporal analysis was carried out with images from 1999 and 2020. The results showed that the reduction of native vegetation was of the order of 3 ha, equivalent to 50% of the existing plant mass in 1999. The investigation showed, among other aspects, the viability of map and identify changes in native vegetation from the NDVI map, with a view to subsidizing public policies for the maintenance and conservation of native vegetation, especially in environmentally fragile areas.

A análise temporal foi realizada com imagens de 1999 e 2020. Os resultados mostraram que a redução da vegetação nativa foi da ordem de 3 ha, equivalente a 50% da massa vegetal existente em 1999.
