Experience of university extension in collective oral health during the covid-19 pandemic: Challenges and overcoming strategies

Resumo: The University's communication with society is established through university extension actions that enable the sharing, with the external public, of the knowledge developed in the institution and the democratization of access to scientific information. Given the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was necessary to establish new strategies for the continuity of extension actions. Thus, the present study aimed to report an extension experience, in order to describe the strategies adopted to make health education practices viable during the pandemic period. As a result of social distancing, it was decided to develop virtual activities that allowed the continuation of the health education process aimed at the community and the academic training of the extension members. Even in the face of the pandemic, the extension managed to overcome the challenges and maintain the link between the institution and the community.

Dadas las restricciones impuestas por la pandemia del COVID-19, fue necesario establecer nuevas estrategias para la continuidad de las acciones de extensión. Así, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo relatar una experiencia de extensión, con el fin de describir las estrategias adoptadas para viabilizar prácticas de educación en salud durante el período de pandemia. A raíz del distanciamiento social, se decidió desarrollar actividades virtuales que permitieran continuar con el proceso de educación en salud dirigido a la comunidad y la formación académica de los extensionistas. Aún frente a la pandemia, la extensión logró superar los desafíos y mantener el vínculo entre la institución y la comunidad.A comunicação da Universidade junto à sociedade é estabelecida através das ações da extensão universitária que possibilitam o compartilhamento, com o público externo, do conhecimento desenvolvido na instituição e a democratização do acesso à informação científica. Diante das restrições impostas pela pandemia da COVID-19, foi necessário estabelecer novas estratégias para a continuidade das ações extensionistas. Assim, o presente estudo teve como objetivo relatar uma experiência de extensão, a fim de descrever as estratégias adotadas para a viabilização das práticas de educação em saúde durante o período pandêmico. Em decorrência do distanciamento social, optou-se pelo desenvolvimento de atividades virtuais que permitiram dar seguimento ao processo de educação em saúde voltado para a comunidade e a formação acadêmica dos membros da extensão.
