Resumo: The exponential economic and population growth is a recent phenomenon in human history. For millennia, mankind lived with low rates of demo-economic growth. However, after the Industrial and Energy Revolution (using fossil fuels), which occurred in the late eighteenth century, mankind has expanded human activities in all corners of the planet, with large negative impact on the sustainability of ecosystems. The Anthropocene - human dominance Era - represents a new period of Earth history in which human beings has become the major escalation of global environmental change and global warming cause. The aim of this paper is to discuss the unsustainability of production and consumption of the hegemonic model and how to transition to a model of steady state or degrowth.
