Resumo: Bees of the genus Bombus are important in the maintenance of diverse cultures agricultural, forests and consequently fauna that depend on it. Therefore, become apparent the wide ecological and economic importance of bees. Insects are adapted to a wide variety of environments and diets. One of the adaptations of insects is the possession of Malpighian tubules and hindgut; forming a system that regulates the homeostasis of water, ions and metabolites of the body fluid. Malpighian tubules are responsible in filter the hemolymph and release the filtrate into the intestinal lumen. However, the hindgut and formed by the ileum and rectum, these segments of the alimentary canal is responsible for the reabsorption of part the filtrate released by Malpighian tubules. For this process the rectal papillae located in the rectum are considered the principal organs of control ionic and hydric. Since it in the bee Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides is known of the presence of rectal papillae; the objective of our work was to evaluate the morphological aspects of the excretion in Bombus morio, because these bees we found the absence of rectal papillae. Our results show the presence of two cell types in the Malpighian tubules of B. morio, being that the type I cell maintains characteristics of active transport of solutes and the type II cell appears to play a role in the retention of esferocristais and uptake and secretion of compounds through their vesicles. In the ileum of B. morio we identify four cell types, being that the structural characteristics suggest a secretory function of protein to the cell type I, a function reabsorptive of organic compounds for the cell types II and a regulatory function of solutes and water by the cell types III and IV. Our work also reports the absence of absorptive characteristic of rectal epithelium of M. quadrifasciata anthidioides, whereas B. morio only the anterior region of the rectum shows absorption characteristics. The morphological characteristics of the Malpighian tubules of B. morio and ileum are similar to that found in most insects with rectal papillae. However, there are anatomical and ultrastrucutral aspects that suggest that the ileum and rectal epithelium of B. morio has an important role in the reabsorption of fluid released by the Malpighian tubules, compensating for the absence of rectal papillae on this bee.
