The aim of this work was to analyze the determinants of the agrarian structure in Minas Gerais, as well as assess the impact of agricultural growth, the use of agricultural technologies and the distribution of settlements on the changes in the concentration of land between 1995 and 2006. The Gini coefficients were used to measure inequality in land and factor analysis was applied to construct the index for Agricultural Technology Factor. Also spatial econometric techniques were used in order to estimate the model. The results showed such the high levels of land inequality as concentration trend between 1995 and 2006. It was noted also that the large farms have, on average, land productivity levels far below the small farms. Moreover, the effects of both the production value and the settlement policies in relation to land inequality were virtually nil. Therefore it can be concluded that although the Kuznets hypothesis has been met, there is no expectation of reduction in the pattern of inequality now, unless there is an intensive policy of land distribution. As for the analysis of the land ownership dynamics between 1995 and 2006, it was noted that the increase of concentration levels were higher in regions with better land distribution in the initial period. Also, it was found that regions with a greater use of technology had contributed to the increase in inequality during the period. However, the settlement policy was not able to slow the process of land concentration in Minas Gerais.
