O Pântano do Cururu: trabalho, ocupação e conflitos de terra

This thesis aims to analyze a peculiar form of land occupation made by the rural workers. This occupation is specifically characterized by its implementation as a partnership work, which turned the unused into productive land and this land into work, from a perspective of working peasant. The influence of different factors allowed that this occupied land offers different horizons of possibilities to partners. For some, meant the work and the link land. For others, hope to become the land owners. The partners livelihood is also characterized by dependency ties with regional major land owners. They questioned the land occupation by the partners and their attempt to break dependency links, fighting for the possession of this public land. It was deployed a conflict, marking the sociogênese of the Brazilian lands conflicts and those specifically in Minas Gerais State. Institutionalized channels marked the dispute for these lands through the creation of the Autonomous Workers Trade from Piumhi allied to the work basis of the Brazilian Communist Party, besides the support of Catholic Church sectors and the Superintendency of Agrarian Policy (SUPRA). The analised social context is the West-central region of the Minas Gerais State, where in the early 1960, was built Furnas hydroelectric power. As part of the plant infrastructure works, the Piumhi river transposition and the swamp drainage were made. The land that emerged in the region were occupied by partners, specifically from the Piumhi city, by the land work. As the occupation process and land dispute occurred in 1960, the methodology used to understand this process was based on oral history and historiography.
