Resumo: The rapid and ill planned growth of cities has brought serious environmental problems in large urban centers. This thesis studies the soil loss by water erosion in three densely populated areas in the city of Juiz de Fora, MG, which has been presenting important erosional features. Measuring erosion is not easy, as rains and floods vary enormously, and one single extraordinary event can produce large losses of soil in a short time. To indirectly evaluate the erodibility of soils in the study, a program of laboratory testing was carried out, obtaining their geotechnical properties (consistency indices, particle size analysis, natural humidity content, density of solids, permeability and shear resistance).The erodibility of these soils was also directly evaluated through Inderbitzen tests, varying the geometry of the specimens. For the Inderbitzen equipment developed in this thesis, three ramps were fabricated with different holes for insertion of the specimens, in order to verify the effect of the shape and size of the samples in soil loss results. For this reason, during the testing program conducted, the flow and slope of the ramps was kept constant. From the results, one can conclude that changes in form and size of the hole in the ramp in the Inderbitzen equipment influenced the determination of erodibility of the soil. Furthermore, the soils of the areas studied showed no resistance to extensive erosion, which explains the large erosions that, over time, have been gradually increasing.

Nesta tese estuda-se a perda de solo por erosão hídrica em três locais densamente povoados da cidade de Juiz de Fora-MG, que vêm apresentando importantes feições erosivas. Medir a erosão, não é fácil, pois as chuvas e enchentes variam enormemente, e um único acontecimento extraordinário pode produzir grandes perdas de solo em um pequeno espaço de tempo. Para avaliar de forma indireta a erodibilidade dos solos em estudo, realizou-se um programa de ensaios de laboratório, obtendo-se as suas propriedades geotécnicas (índices de consistência, análise granulométrica, teor de umidade natural, massa específica dos sólidos, permeabilidade e resistência ao cisalhamento). Avaliouse também a erodibilidade desses solos de forma direta, através de ensaios de Inderbitzen, variando a geometria dos corpos de prova. Para o equipamento Inderbitzen desenvolvido nesta tese, foram confeccionadas três rampas com diferentes orifícios para inserção dos corpos de prova, com o objetivo de verificar o efeito da forma e tamanho da amostra nos resultados de perda de solo. Por esse motivo, durante o programa de ensaios realizado manteve-se constante a vazão e a declividade das rampas. A partir dos resultados, pode-se concluir que mudanças na forma e no tamanho do orifício da rampa no equipamento Inderbitzen influenciaram na determinação da erodibilidade dos solos.
