Resumo: A total of 23.6% of maize seeds (Zea mays L., Poaceae) from Minas Gerais State is produced in the Alto Parnaíba region. This region uses cultivation techniques that provide high yields of this crop. However, high doses of fertilizers, oftentimes unnecessary, are applied, unbalancing the nutrition. Methods of diagnosis of nutritional status of these plants, including foliar analysis, are important in the region. This analysis detects the nutrient in excess or deficient inside the plant. This study aimed to establish foliar analysis standards by the methods: Critical Level (CL), Sufficiency Range (SR), Kenworthy balanced indexes (IBK), Mathematical Chance (ChM), Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS), and Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis (CND) for the corn crop in the region at the beginning of Paranaíba Rio - MG, in order to determine the best method for diagnosis and establish the order of nutrients nutritional limitation. Commercial corn farms, with predominance of Red-Yellow Latosol, were evaluated in the agricultural crops of 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. Maize leaves were sampled to form the database and generate the diagnostic indexes. The productivity of 64 plots in the crop of 2011/2012 and of 66 plots in the crop of 2012/2013, with area between five and 60 hectares per plot, was evaluated. These plots were cultivated with practices recommended for the crop. The content obtained for the NC was estimated from mathematical models for 90% of the maximum productivity. The FS and the IBK were determined according to the subpopulation of high yield (> 11,795 kg ha 1). The FS was the mean of the subpopulation of high productivity plus the standard deviation of the same and the IBK, to the mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation from the subpopulation of high productivity. After distribution of the productivity into classes of frequency, the relative mathematical chance (ChMR) was calculated. The optimal range obtained by the method ChM was composed by the intervals of nutrient content that covering the two largest classes of ChMR. The standards for the DRIS were determined by the mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variation and reason of variance between the amounts of nutrients into the leaves in the subpopulation of high productivity. The mean and the average standard deviation of the multinutrient variables in the subpopulation of high productivity were calculated for the method CND. Parameters from the descriptive statistics were used to group the values into classes, determine the reference population and establish the indexes. A total of 49.1% of the sampled plots had produtivity above 11 t ha 1. The subpopulation of high productivity (reference) established was composed by 25.8% of total of the plots sampled. The methods of diagnosis NC, FS and IBK indicated that the optimum levels of nutrients are very close to the averages of the levels in the reference population and the optimum ranges approximate the values between the methods FS and IBK. The normal ranges of ChM disagree of ranges DRIS and CND proposals. In order to validate the importance of regionalization of standards, the amplitude of optimum ranges obtained for the FS, IBK, ChM, DRIS and CND methods, were smaller than those found in the literature. The methods showed that iron and zinc are the most limited elements in the plots by nutritional deficiency. Moreover, the limitation by excess was more frequent for the magnesium. The results showed no nutrient limitation of nutrients in similar order to tracks current official. Regional standards are reliable for diagnosing nutrient limitation in corn in the Alto Paranaíba.

Regional standards are reliable for diagnosing nutrient limitation in corn in the Alto Paranaíba.
