Isso promove a permanência das mesmas no mercado de trabalho, gera empregos e promovem inovação e riqueza, contribuindo para o desenvolvimento do País. Este estudo analisou a atuação de empreendedoras na cidade de Rio Paranaíba-MG. Utilizou-se a abordagem quanti-qualitativa e como técnica de coleta de dados usou-se o questionário. Muitas participantes já tinham experiência no ramo em que atuam como funcionárias. Abriram seu próprio empreendimento para auto realização, trabalhar por conta própria e para melhoria de rendimentos financeiros. Acerca das representações sociais das participantes sobre o que é ser empreendedor emergiram definições relacionadas a “colocar em prática sonhos ou ideias”, a “arriscar”, a “fazer aquilo que gosta”, a ter visão e a “trabalhar para si mesmo”. Quase todas se identificam como empreendedoras e relacionam isso ao fato de serem persistentes, inovadoras e por alcançarem seus objetivos.The number of companies founded and managed by women is increasing. This fact causes their permanence in the job market, creates jobs and promotes innovation and economic growth, contributing to the country’s development. This study examined the performance of female entrepreneurs in Rio Paranaíba (MG). We have used a quantitative and qualitative approach, and, as a technique for data collection, a questionnaire has been answered by the participants. Many of them had already had experience as employees in the industry in which they work. They have opened their own business venture to achieve self-realization, to work on their own and to improve their financial returns. As far as the social representations of the participants about what is it to be an entrepreneur is concerned, definitions related to "implement ideas or dreams", to "risk", to "do what you love", to “have vision”, and to "work for yourself" have emerged. Almost all of the participants identify themselves as entrepreneurs and relate this to the fact that they are persistent, innovative and that they achieve their goals. They also see the impact of the entrepreneurial activity in a positive way, pointing that their enterprises allow them to offer services and products that were not yet available in the city they work.
