The present research discusses the significance of ergodesign for exporting companies located in two prominent furniture production centers in Brazil, as well as furniture ergonomic compliance, pressure distribution in the seats, analysis of assembly instructions, difference between the furniture produced for the external and external market and comparison between the furniture exporting companies in the furniture production centers of Bento Gonçalves (RS) and Ubá (MG). The general objective was to evaluate the profile of furniture exporting companies, aiming at stimulating the use of the principles, methods, ergonomic and design data in product development, certification of ergonomic compliance and prevention of accidents caused by the product use. The material used was provided by 21 industries associated to the worker unions of Rio Grande do Sul and Minas Gerias. The information collection was carried out through the application of a questionnaire, a form and measurements taken directly on the product, with the use of a measuring tape, and a goniometer. In the analysis of ergonomic compliance of the seats, it was used an anthropometric mannequin generated by the Sammie Cad software system and a F-Scan system pressure mat. For data processing, the SPSS software system was used, with specific statistical tests, such as the chi-square and binomial tests. There is a similarity in the profile of the exporting companies. The knowledge the companies have about the techniques and methods of design and ergonomics (ergodesign) is still very incipient. Many companies hire a professional graduated in the area of design for the development of product projects. As for the furniture ergonomic conformity, only one product met all the dimensional requirements of the Brazilian technical standard. The largest concentration of pressure distribution was in the wooden seat for all the percentiles. In the furniture assembly instructions, it was observed that the use of titles was not enough to distinguish the contents. In the statistical approach, the companies of the furniture centers of Bento Gonçalves (RS) and Ubá (MG) presented uniformity among themselves, as for ergodesign. As a general conclusion of the present study, it was observed that the companies researched are highly receptive for ergodesign, although sometimes they do not know the meaning of ergonomics and its application in the development of the product. There is a great potential for the adoption of techniques for product improvement. Some of the techniques already used can be related to ergodesign, but have not been fully explored by companies yet.
