O principal objetivo foi avaliar a percepção ambiental das comunidades universitárias da Universidade Federal de Viçosa – Campus Florestal e do município de Florestal – MG, bem como o nível de conhecimento em relação ao meio ambiente e aos problemas ambientais, relacionando estes aspectos às atitudes pessoais quanto ao gerenciamento de resíduos sólidos. Foi elaborado um questionário para identificar a percepção da população, com 16 perguntas e dividido em duas partes: dados pessoais e percepção sobre questões relativas a meio ambiente. Dos indivíduos entrevistados (400, de um total de 5.996 habitantes), 20,5% conhecem o conceito mais coerente para o meio ambiente. Questionados sobre qual era a avaliação em relação ao conhecimento sobre meio ambiente, 50,5% dos entrevistados responderam que eram bem informados e conscientes, 28,5% responderam que eram bem informados, conscientes e tinham atitudes, 9,0% são bem informados e indiferentes, 2,3% não se preocupam e 9,3% não tinham conhecimento do assunto e 0,5% não sabem. Perguntou-se às pessoas se elas já haviam substituído o consumo de determinado produto por outro similar a fim de gerar menor impacto no meio ambiente e 50% responderam negativamente a esta pergunta. Por meio deste questionário dirigido a uma parcela significativa da população, foi possível conhecer a percepção ambiental e, diante disso, elaborar um programa de educação ambiental voltado às necessidades da comunidade.This work was developed to improve the integrated management of the solid Waste in the university city of Florestal, Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region. The main objective was to evaluate the perception environmental of the communities Universidade Federal de Viçosa – Florestal Campus and the Florestal city - MG, as well as the level of knowledge in relation to the environment and the Environmental problems, relating these aspects to the personal attitudes how much to the management of solid Waste. A questionnaire was elaborated to identify the perception of the population, with 16 questions and divided in two parts: date personal and perception on questions relative the environment.
