Avaliação da flexibilidade e desvios de instrumentos Reciproc após sua reutilização

The flexibility of endodontic instruments seems to have a connection with deviations of the original canal shape caused during cleaning and shaping of root canals R25 instrument. The purpose of this study was to assess the ability of Reciproc in maintaining the original profile of root canal anatomy in simulated curved canals, after multiple uses, in order to simulate the instrumentation of a tooth with more one root. The flexibility test was performed before each instrumentation in order to correlate the file flexibility with the transport generated. Fifty simulated curved canals, manufactured in clear resin blocks and ten RECIPROC (R25) instruments were used. Each R25 instrument prepared a group of five simulated curved canals with four reuses, without intermediate sterilization. The instrumentation was performed by a single operator, observing the protocol of the system. The flexibility of the instruments was tested by means of a bending test , before the first and after each instrumentation, generating results as the power chart (gf) vs. displacement (mm) and mean flexibility in three points. All image processing and data analysis were performed with an open source software (Image J, Fiji is just Image J, USA). Evaluation of canal transportation was obtained in the following canal regions: apical, straight and curved levels. The results did not show a correlation between the bending test of instruments and canal transportation/deviation in simulated canals curved after instrumentation. Taking into account the limitation of this study, we conclude that, after 4 reuses without intermediate sterilization, the instruments R25 didn’t produce a canal transportation or deviation in simulated curved canals.
