Critical racial legal literacy

Resumo: Racial literacy has been used as a category of analysis in studies on anti-racist education and has influenced a series of research on race and racism, in the most diverse fields of knowledge. Reflecting on it, alongside what we called legal literacy, allows us to expand the debate on many issues related to the academic field of Law, such as the crisis in legal education. For this purpose, in this essay, we aim to identify what is called literacy; consecutevely, we address the concept of legal literacy and, at the end, reflected on the racial issue in the pedagogical practice of Law courses and the challenges to be faced. We understand critical legal-racial literacy as an instrument that questions curricular guidelines and pedagogical practices, while at the same time guaranteeing the academic community the possibility of an anti-racist agenda based on the literacies of those who resist racial oppression.

Reflexionar sobre ello, junto con lo que llamamos alfabetización jurídica, nos permite ampliar el debate sobre muchas cuestiones relacionadas con el campo académico del Derecho, como la crisis de la educación jurídica. Para tanto, en este ensayo pretendemos identificar lo que se letramiento; posteriormente, abordamos el concepto de letramiento jurídico y, al final, reflexionamos sobre la cuestión racial en la práctica pedagógica de las carreras de Derecho y los desafíos a enfrentar. Entendemos el letramiento jurídico-racial crítico como un instrumento que cuestiona lineamientos curriculares y prácticas pedagógicas, al mismo tiempo que garantiza a la comunidad académica la posibilidad de una agenda antirracista basada en los letramientos de quienes resisten la opresión racial.A expressão letramento racial tem sido utilizada como categoria de análise nos estudos sobre educação antirracista e influenciado uma série de pesquisas sobre raça e racismo, nos mais diversos campos do conhecimento. Refletir sobre ela, ao lado do que chamamos de letramento jurídico, permite que ampliemos o debate sobre diversas questões relacionadas ao campo acadêmico do Direito, como por exemplo a crise do ensino jurídico. Para tanto, neste ensaio, buscamos identificar o que se denomina de letramento; em seguida abordamos o conceito de letramento jurídico para ao final refletirmos sobre a questão racial na prática pedagógica  dos cursos de Direito e os desafios a serem enfrentados.
