Resumo: Since the 1960s, biblical translations concerned with accompanying the evolution of languages ”‹”‹and rendering the biblical text in a more comprehensible way started to be presented in various languages. The work on current or adapted-qualified language is one of the main slogans of these translation projects. This paper aims to analyze the discourses on the relationship between the translation phenomenon and the treatment of language conveyed in Brazilian Vulgate biblical translations. This is a descriptive, qualitative, bibliographical and documentary research. The corpus consists of excerpts found in paratextual elements of Brazilian Vulgate biblical translations, these excerpts deal with the translation phenomenon and the work done on language for such Bibles. The perceptions evidenced in them were discussed based on Nida (1964), Gohn (2001), Konings (2009), Teixeira and Zimmer (2008), Lopes (2008) and Nord (2016). The analysis of the corpus allowed us to see the predominance of two discourses: first, the translation projects promote the triumph of the biblical text over the distance between us and its temporal setting, which aids the updating of the biblical language; second, the comprehension of the Bible can be facilitated by the language used for the translation, which is mainly due to the application of the functional equivalence method. The theoretical-methodological discussion indicates that the dynamics of languages ”‹”‹and the confrontation between “contemporary” and “traditional” language already consolidated in the linguistic awareness of Bible readers or listeners threaten the survival of such translations. In addition, in the quest for language simplification, translation teams use language strategies to make the biblical text comprehensible. Consequently, despite promoting the democratization of the biblical text, the result is that the text is not well-received ”“ for the language of these translations is accessible to all, but at the same time it may not be recognized by anyone in particular.

Consequently, despite promoting the democratization of the biblical text, the result is that the text is not well-received ”“ for the language of these translations is accessible to all, but at the same time it may not be recognized by anyone in particular.
