Resumo: In the first centuries of the Middle Age many classical temples dedicated to Athena were adapted and transformed into Christian temples dedicated to Mary. For this purpose, the peristyle of the classical temple is closed and the temple loses its openness to the external reality. The pagan temple adapted to Christianity essentially becomes a living space where the faithful practice their rituals inside the temple. The reality outside the temple is condemned to be a kind of non-reality, and it is only the internal reality, supported by Christian aesthetic, that is substantiated as the only possible reality for the purification of the faithful. In this aesthetic reality, the nursing of baby Jesus by Maria becomes a model of nutrition of the soul for the preparation in the life of the faithful and in the space of his non-reality, and also for the worthiness for the eternity of the soul.
