Considerando o país dotado de belezas naturais, porém com pouca infra-estrutura e consciência do potencial turístico que possui, verificou-se a oportunidade de se pesquisar a atividade ecoturística na região. Na busca do estabelecimento dessa atividade como forma alternativa de preservação do meio ambiente, de interação com a comunidade, de desenvolvimento sócio-econômico-ambiental e sustentável, entendeu-se o objetivo geral da pesquisa, abordando o ecoturismo como fator mudança para o desenvolvimento do país. A pesquisa foi realizada em três etapas. A primeira tratou de informar sobre a história da Ilha e estabelecer conceitos sobre o ecoturismo. A segunda abordou a oportunidade de desenvolvimento na região e a receptividade da comunidade à respeito do assunto, por meio de questionários aplicados no país e a terceira analisou o resultado da pesquisa, a fim de minimizar as dificuldades da implantação do ecoturismo na Ilha. Considering the fact that the country has got beautiful natural resources but very little infra-structure and awareness of touristic potencial. Searching to set this activity as an alternative way of keeping the environment, interaction with the community, social-economicalenvironmental development, it is understood that the main purpose of the research is to study the ecotourism as a factor of change to the development of the country. The research was made in three stages. The first aimed to inform about the history of the Island and set new concepts about ecotourism. The second dealt with the opportunity of development in the region and its acceptance in the community by a survey and questionnaire applied to the community. The third analysed the result of the survey in the order to reduce the difficulties of setting the ecotourism in the Island.
