Busca-se explicitar as representações que os sujeitos construíram mediante suas experiências no ensino da segunda língua e os sentidos que nelas contêm, visando a identificar o significado dessas representações. Assim sendo, este trabalho constitui-se em uma pesquisa, e se caracteriza por ser qualitativa e quantitativa pautada no aporte teórico das representações sociais de Moscovici (ano). A estratégia metodológica empregada na coleta de dados foi o questionário entregue a oito professores da Casa Thomas Jefferson. Identificou-se que as representações sociais dos professores estão em consonância com a literatura exposta por Crystal e Phillipson acerca da hegemonia do Inglês no mundo, assim como as representações sociais dos professores está de acordo com o exposto pela literatura. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe present paper intended to investigate the social representations of the English teachers about the practice of teaching this idiom as a second language. It seeks to, throughout exploratory research, explicit teacher‟s representations which they have built through experiences in teaching a second language and the meanings restrained on them, aiming to identify those meanings. Therefore, this paper constitutes an exploratory study and is characterized as qualitative and quantitative based on the theoretical approach of Moscovici on social representations. The methodological strategies used on this study were based on the study analyses by means of an open questionnaire answered by eight Casa Thomas Jefferson teachers.
