A maioria dos casos de osteoma periférico ocorre nos ossos craniofacias, mais frequentes nos seios paranasais e mandíbula. A etiologia dessa neoplasia ainda não é clara, existe a hipótese que seja reacional devido a um trauma ou tração muscular. Foram relatados 82 casos documentados na língua inglesa de osteomas periféricos na mandíbula até o ano de 2013 segundo pesquisa realizada no banco de dados Pubmed. Neste artigo, foi relatado um caso clínico de uma paciente de 19 anos de idade, saudável, que compareceu ao Serviço de Cirurgia Bucomaxilofacial da Unidade de Saúde Bucal do Hospital Universitário de Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brasil, com osteoma periférico localizado em corpo mandibular, com 3 anos de evolução. It occurs mainly in the craniofacial bones, with the most common locations being paranasal sinuses and mandible. The pathogenesis of peripheral osteomas is not well-understood, trauma and muscle traction has been suggested as possible aetiological factors. Until 2013 a total of 82 documented cases in the english language could be found searching in the Pubmed. This article reported a clinical case of a 19 year old female patient, healthy, with a peripheral osteoma located at the body of the mandible that had been growing over the past 3 years. She presented herself to the Oral and Maxillofacial Service at Oral Health Unit of Brasilia University Hospital, Federal District, Brazil.
