Resumo: | This paper aims at presenting the results of a research on how an English language class, which seeks to promote discussions on corruption, can contribute to the development of a participatory citizenship. It is based on Menezes de Souza and Monte Mór (2006), who argue that the objective of foreign language teaching in public schools is not restricted to the approach of linguistic aspects, but it is committed to the formation of creative and receptive individuals to new knowledge and social aware citizens. For this, we believe that such teaching should be based on ethical principles and guided by a critical perspective. In this way, the class analysed was planned with the intention of promoting discussions on corruption in society and stimulating reflections on our social responsibility as citizens. The investigation occurred during the period of teaching in a supervised internship in a 3rd year group of high school of a state school of Paraíba, in the second semester of 2016. In the analysis, it is noticed that the discussions caused destabilization in the students' crystallized representations of the acts of corruption and people who are considered dishonest. |

In the analysis, it is noticed that the discussions caused destabilization in the students' crystallized representations of the acts of corruption and people who are considered dishonest.
