Play spaces and territories for children: toy libraries in vulnerable areas

Resumo: This article makes a conceptual review of the play in childhood and discusses its function in toy libraries located in areas of high social marginalization. The play has been associated with childhood: children spend a lot of time in this activity and are protagonists there, and represents a place in which they simultaneously maintain two spaces of interaction, one real and other fictional, where they are enabled to transform or adapt reality to their purposes in relation to others. Providing a place, time, objects, companions and facilitators of play activity contributes to create alternative spaces for children in vulnerable situations to articulate dimensions of health, rights and coexistence.

El juego se ha asociado a la infancia: niñas y niños dedican mucho tiempo a esa actividad y son protagonistas ahí, y representa un lugar en el que mantienen simultáneamente dos espacios de interacción, uno real y otro ficcional, donde están habilitados a transformar o adaptar la realidad a sus fines en relación a otros. Proveer de un lugar, tiempo, objetos, compañeros y facilitadores de juegos, contribuye a crear espacios alternativos para que la niñez en situación de vulnerabilidad articule dimensiones de salud, derechos y convivencia.Este artigo faz uma revisão conceitual do jogo na infância e discute seu papel nas brinquedotecas localizadas em áreas de alta marginalização social. O jogo tem estado associado à infância: crianças passam muito tempo nessa atividade e aí são protagonistas, e representa um local em que mantêm simultaneamente dois espaços de interacção, um real e outro ficcional, onde são capazes de transformar-se ou adaptar a realidade aos seus propósitos em relação aos outros.
