Resumo: | The goal of the study was to understand the main challenges for adherence to antiretroviral treatment in Mozambique from the perspective of health professionals who deal with HIV/AIDS. The study is qualitative, observational, and exploratory. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 health professionals who provide HIV/AIDS assistance in seven of the country's eleven provinces. Data analysis was based on the Discourse of the Collective Subject. Results were categorized into nine central ideas. Among the problems mentioned by health professionals there are aspects related to culture, the fear of forced disclosure of HIV positive diagnosis, the absence of an adequate understanding of the benefits of treatment, the way health services are organized, gender issues, and social aspects such as hunger, financial difficulties and problems with transportation, among others. |
