SOCIAL GOALS OF EDUCATION:: A CRITICAL APPROACH

Resumo: The social dimensions which can be detected withinschool environments are discussed here, together with the notions ofhidden curriculum and with references to the rules organizing children'sactivities and experiences. Three main questions are analyzed thereafter:the false opposition between socialization and cognitive development: thestress put on the expression of individualistic values; and the ambiguityfound in holistic concepts such as conflict and cooperation. The need forintensive studies of social interations and for the definition of socialobjectives for education are also emphasized.
