METHODOLOGICAL QUESTIONS REGARDING PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH -: THE CASE OF RESEARCH ON LOCUS OF CONTROL WITHIN THE ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Resumo: This work discusses some questions conceming scientificproduction in Psychology, taking as its focus of analysis studies that relatethe variable locus of control (Rotter, 1966) with various products andcharacteristics of the organizational context. A sample of 23 researchreports was analysed with the objective of identifying the basicmethodological decisions and problems wich characterize the studies in the area. These characteristics were compared with the methodologicalimperatives that undergird the Experimental Analysis os Behavior(Sidman, 1974; Johnston & Pennypacker, 1980). This comparison made itpossible to identify the epistemological propositions that distinguishinvestigatory traditions in Psychology. The article discusses thepossibility of minimizing the problems that envelope current research onthe locus of control and offers some recommendations pertainíng to themethodology and posture of investigator working with ExperimentalAnalysis of Behavior.

Uma amostra de 23 relatos de pesquisa foi analisada com o objetivo de identificar as decisões metodológicas básicas que caracterizam os estudos na área e os seus principais problemas. Tais características foram confrontadas com os imperativos metodológicos que embasam a Análise Experimental doComportamento (Sidman, 1974 e Johnston e Pennypacker, 1980),ma-peando-se os pressupostos epistemológicos que marcam as duas tradições de investigação na Psicologia.
