Resumo: This study aimed to evaluate the available assessment tools of body image in adult males, and to verify the psychometric properties obtained in the process of construction/adaptation of these instruments. Search restricted to the period of 2009-2013 was conducted in the Scopus, Web of Science, BIREME databases and in the theses bank of CAPES, using the keywords: body image, scales, questionnaires, validation and translations. This study found an increase in the number of instruments available for the Brazilian population, as well as a diversification of the populations studied. However, there are few specific instruments for adult males. It is necessary create and adapt new tools that address the complexity of the body image construct.

As pesquisas em imagem corporal têm crescido muito nos últimos anos. Os autores mostram preocupação com a escolha dos instrumentos para a avaliação da imagem corporal, considerando que apenas aqueles específicos, com suas propriedades psicométricas comprovadas, devem ser utilizados. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os instrumentos disponíveis para avaliação da imagem corporal em homens brasileiros adultos, por meio de busca nas bases de dados: Scopus, Web of Science, BIREME, e banco de teses da CAPES. Esta pesquisa constatou a carência de instrumentos para a população brasileira, especialmente para a masculina, com instrumentos apresentando qualidades psicométricas distantes das recomendações dos pesquisadores.
