Resumo: The paper analyses some points of view about the Japanese model of production, considering the neo and post-fordist perspectives, and also discusses the possibilities of transfering that model to the western world. The study suggests the analized author’s enthusiasm and scepticism about the possibilities of these transference depend on définitions of the Japanese model they support and on the emphasis given to the particularity and universality elements in the constitution and efficacy of the model.

L’ analyse suppose que lé enthousiasme ou la réticence que les auteurs demontrent par rapport à 1’adoption de ce modèle depend des définitions de ce modèle, de ‘Temphase” que l’on attribue ausens du particuler et de 1’universel.Este artigo analisa diferentes abordagens sobre o modelo japonês, considerando as perspectivas neo e pós-fordista. Ademais, discute as possibilidades de transferência do modelo aos paises ocidentais.
