Resumo: The article compares the origins and development of higher education in Argentina and Brazil. It shows how the University Reform Movement that started in Cordoba, Argentina, in 1918, had strong and almost immediate echo in many Hispanic- American countries, whereas in Brazil it had na almost insignificant influence in the University Reform -which tookplace fifty years later throught the Law 5.540/68. Analysing the specificities of the university systems in these two countries, it stresses the importance of a deeper knowledge of these two university traditions in order to carry out creative experiences of integration having in mind the new possibilities opened up by MERCOSUL.

II prend comme point de référence le Mouvement de Réforme Universitaire débuté à Córdoba, Argentina, en 1918. Par ailleurs, il montre comment ce mouvement a eu des répercussions timides et tardives dans le cas de la Réforme Universitaire du Brésil, mise en place en 1968, contrairement aux pays hispano-américains oü le mouvement a trouvé un important écho. A partir de l 'analyse des spécificités des deux systèmes universitaires, argentin et brésilien, ce texte souligne le besoin d'une profonde connaissance des deux différentes traditions pour qu 'on puisse mettre en place des expériences créatrices d’intégration universitaire, tout en tenant en compte les nouvelles possibilités ouvertes par le MERCOSUL.O artigo compara diferenças entre Argentinae Brasil quanto a origem e desenvolvimento dos seus sistemas de educação superior. Toma como referência o Movimento de Reforma Universitária com início em 1918 em Córdoba, Argentina. Mostra como este movimento encontra profundo eco em outros paises hispano-americanos, mas tem repercussões mínimas e tardias no caso da Reforma Universitária no Brasil, ocorrida em 1968.
