The participation of family farming in purchases for school food in Rio Grande do Sul: an analysis according to the regionalization of COREDES

The Brazilian National School Feeding Program (PNAE) is considered an international reference for articulating the agricultural and food and nutritional security policies. This is largely due to the changes established by the Law No. 11.947/2009, especially through the determination that at least 30% of the resources allocated to this program be used to purchase food from family farming. The objective of the article is to analyze the existence of differences in the participation of family farming in PNAE and compliance to the minimum purchases mechanism in the different regions of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). The information was obtained through literature review and documentary research. The main source of quantitative data regarding the execution of PNAE by the city halls from 2011 to 2016 was The National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE). We observed significant differences between the regions, both in the participation of family farming in the PNAE and in compliance with the minimum purchasing mechanism. Keywords: PNAE.
