Resumo: The research presents an exploratory analysis of the institutional discourses of the public service of technical assistance and rural extension (Ater) in Brazil from information available on institutional websites of this public entities and in the light of the National Technical Assistance Policy and Rural Extension (PNATER) from 2010. As methodological resources were used procedures of content analysis and discourse analysis which allowed to identify coherences and inconsistencies among the items examined, and those with current national policy. It was evidenced purposeful and sharp seek tuning of organizational communication of these entities with the text of the law of PNATER. It was detected, finally, from the survey and literature discussion on the subject of PNATER, the existence of disputes about different views on sustainable rural development in Brazil. Pnater.A pesquisa apresenta uma análise exploratória dos discursos institucionais do serviço público de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural (Ater) no Brasil a partir de informações disponíveis nos sites institucionais das entidades públicas de Ater nacionais e à luz da Política Nacional de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural (Pnater) de 2010. Como recursos metodológicos foram utilizados procedimentos da análise de conteúdo e análise do discurso, os quais permitiram identificar coerências e incoerências entre os itens analisados, e destes com atual política nacional. Ficou evidenciada uma intencionada e nítida busca de sintonia da comunicação organizacional dessas entidades com o texto da lei da Pnater. Considerando o levantamento realizado e a discussão bibliográfica sobre o tema da Pnater, foi possível detectar, finalmente, a existência de disputas acerca das distintas visões sobre o desenvolvimento rural sustentável no Brasil.
