Resumo: The research analyzes the causes of intolerance and violence against the LGBTI group that result in the death of several people in Brazilian society, through the analysis of theories formulated by Hannah Arendt as "banality of evil" and "otherness". For this, part of the conceptualization of the banality of evil; linking this concept and intolerance to gender diversity with data that quantifies violence against LGBTIs; and, finally, ponders on the alterity composed by Arendt. As for the methodology, the deductive was used; understanding the banality of evil and gender intolerance will lead to intervention against this phenomenon, otherness. In addition, the bibliographic research was also used, books, articles and legislation were examined. As a result, gender intolerance is one of the forms of the banality of evil, that is, it occurs through hate speech that is the target of thought and propagated daily by ordinary people who have no ability to think autonomously. This poses a risk to the Democratic State by going against its principles. In this bias, Arendt proposes alterity as a break with trivial evil, which can also be used to break gender intolerance; according to her, men only evolve when they live with people who are different from themselves, otherness would be the awareness of it and the acceptance of the other as different. Keywords: Intolerance to LGBTIs. Banality of evil. Alterity.

Keywords: Intolerance to LGBTIs. Banality of evil. Alterity.
