Resumo: The objective of this study is to evaluate the perception about quality of public transportation service in Nova Iguaçu city, a peripheral city located in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is understood that the evaluation of the quality dimensions of the public transport service by bus, can contribute to think about the city and its urban mobility plan. In the study, the following dimensions of quality evaluation were selected: Reliability, Safety, Tangibility. Quality management aspects of urban collective passenger transport services were analyzed. The exploratory base study allowed a better understanding of the user's perception about the service, leading to a systemic analysis of the problems of the city that were detected. The results make it clear that, in some points, there is no evidence of a mobility project within the concept of sustainability. Expectations are not met, that is, there are many tangible needs regarding equipment, reliability regarding the expected time of use of the system at peak times, as well as inadequacies in user safety. User.O objetivo deste trabalho é o de avaliar a percepção sobre qualidade de serviço de transporte público da cidade de Nova Iguaçu, uma cidade periférica localizada na Região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Entende-se que a avaliação das dimensões de qualidade do serviço de transporte público por ônibus, possa contribuir para se pensar a cidade e seu plano de mobilidade urbana. No estudo foram selecionadas as seguintes dimensões de avaliação de qualidade: Confiabilidade, Segurança, Tangibilidade. Foram analisados aspectos ligados à gestão da qualidade em serviços de transporte coletivo urbano de passageiros. O estudo de base exploratória permitiu melhor entender a percepção do usuário sobre o serviço, conduzindo a uma analise sistêmica sobre os problemas da cidade que foram detectados. Os resultados deixam claro que, em alguns pontos, não há evidencias de um projeto de mobilidade dentro de conceito de sustentabilidade. As expectativas não são atendidas, ou seja, existem muitas necessidades tangiveis em relação aos equipamentos, confiabilidade quanto ao tempo previsto no uso do sistema nos horarios de pico, bem como inadequabilidades na segurança do usuário.
