Lauro de Freitas in the tourism context of the metropolitan region of Salvador: a dormitory tourist center?

Resumo: The understanding of the interrelationships between tourism and space is the background of the analysis put here. Its territorial landmark is the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (RMS), focusing on the municipality of Lauro de Freitas/BA. The article seeks to analyze the behavior of Lauro de Freitas in the dynamics of RMS tourism, starting from the conceptual categories proposed by Boullón. For this, we used in addition to bibliographic research, semi-structured interviews with members of the municipal administration and tourism specialists, as well as the analysis of the content of the official websites of the means of lodging of Lauro de Freitas and the testimonies of its guests, with respect to these same establishments, available on TripAdvisor platforms and Booking.com. It was concluded that Lauro de Freitas presents a peculiar behavior, not described in the literature, here defined as "Tourist Center Dormitory", very dependent on the dynamics of the other municipalities of the RMS, notably Salvador and Camaçari. Su hito territorial es la Región Metropolitana de Salvador (RMS), centrándose en el municipio de Lauro de Freitas / BA. El artículo busca analizar el comportamiento de Lauro de Freitas en la dinámica turística del RMS, a partir de las categorías conceptuales propuestas por Boullón. Para ello, además de la investigación bibliográfica, se utilizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas con miembros de la administración municipal y especialistas en turismo, así como el análisis del contenido de los sitios web oficiales de las instalaciones de alojamiento de Lauro de Freitas y los testimonios de sus huéspedes, con respecto a estos mismos establecimientos, disponibles en las plataformas de TripAdvisor y Booking.com. Se concluyó que Lauro de Freitas presenta un comportamiento peculiar, no descrito en la literatura, aquí definido como "Centro Turístico Dormitorio", muy dependiente de la dinámica de los otros municipios del RMS, en particular Salvador y Camaçari. A compreensão das inter-relações entre turismo e espaço é o pano de fundo da análise aqui realizada. Seu marco territorial é a Região Metropolitana de Salvador (RMS), centrando-se no município de Lauro de Freitas/BA. O artigo busca analisar o comportamento de Lauro de Freitas na dinâmica do turismo da RMS, partindo das categorias conceituais propostas por Boullón. Para isto, utilizou-se, além da pesquisa bibliográfica, de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com membros da administração municipal e especialistas em turismo, bem como a análise do conteúdo dos sites oficiais dos meios de hospedagem de Lauro de Freitas e dos depoimentos de seus hóspedes, com respeito a esses mesmos estabelecimentos, disponíveis nas plataformas TripAdvisor e Booking.com. Concluiu-se que Lauro de Freitas apresenta um comportamento peculiar, não descrito na literatura, aqui definido como “Centro Turístico Dormitório”, muito dependente da dinâmica dos demais municípios da RMS, notadamente Salvador e Camaçari.
